CMJ News Story: The Hong Kong Blood Opera this week's SPOTLIGHT

Although many turn to Mexico for sandy vacations, margaritas and gun running, it's not necessarily the first place the average music aficionado looks for new indie rock. That may change with the electro-rock of a few kids from Hermosillo, Sonora. The Hong Kong Blood Opera grew up on American and British indie rock from the 90's, and decided to go against the traditional "banda" and "norteño" music that dominated their small close-to-the-border town's cultural scene. Now they just might be the hottest thing to come out of Mexico since the jalapeno. The boys' brand of toe-tapping, dirty fuzz, beat-dropping good times.
In 2007, after working a few national tours, the band released The Critical Paparazzi EP (Noiselab Records).They've also played several high profile Mexican festivals, including MX Beat and Motorokr Fest, sharing the stage with bands such as the Killers and Incubus. They were invited to play SXSW last year, which led to a Vice Live party in NYC and help with the launch of Vice Mexico with the Black Lips. They've since played in London, the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany, and the southern Swedish city of Malmö as part of the Debasser Festival. (The band was invited but could not attend this year's CMJ Marathon due to external causes.)
The Hong Kong Blood Opera is working on a new LP, due out sometime soon. Rumors of it being some combination of meat, cheese and tortilla are unconfirmed.

Que ondas?
Pues resulta que ayer fuimos a la fiesta pre-Música para los dioses y la verdad yo me imaginaba así barra libre y la chingada, todos bien pedos bailando rolas chingonas Funketeras acá bien vergas... la neta me imaginaba un fiestonononon. Pasó a chingar a su madre todo porque llegamos y estaba vacío el lugar y yo con mis esperanzas de la barra libre... entramos y a la verga estaba el bajista ese de Caifanes Sabo Romo y otro pendejo tocando rolas de Zepillin según ellos muy chingones jajajaj y la gente bailando, no mames, yo bailaba esas rolas cuando estaba en el kinder, esta cabron, esta cabron.
Total no había barra libre mis compas se fueron por lo vale verga de la fiesta yo me quede con mi morrita a que se tomara su drink mas caro que la verga. Tanto valio verga que nos fuimos y mi morrita no se acabo su drink. Así festejamos los 11 meses que cumplí con ella, en una fiesta bien horrenda.
Pinche fiesta sarra.

Fin de semana loco
19 de Marzo: Tocada en Cholula
CANCELADA!
20 de Marzo: Tocada en Puebla.
Yeah! Llegamos a Puebla en un carro de $500 la renta por día, muy chilo el carrito la neta... en cuanto llegamos fuimos a una entrevista en quinta verga, en la casa de un wey, supuestamente la radio sale en todo los MMCinemas de la república...
1. Quien sabe si es verdad.
2. No hay 2.
3. Quién chingados va a los MMCinemas?
... pero bueno, ya estando ahí se hizo la entrevista, se acabo nos fuimos al lugar a hacer "soundcheck" por que no hicimos soundcheck, nos dieron de comer Cemitas, y no nos gustaron mas de verga por la planta esa que tiene "Papalo". Nos dieron 2 cervezas a cada uno, mal mal. Pero llego la hora del show y a la verga estuvo muy al chingazo, la raza haciendo cagadero mas que nunca en Puebla... hasta un pinche morrito a toda madre se hizo mierda una oreja y tomándose fotos con nosotros sangrando acá. Bien vergas la neta y de vuelta para el DF.
21 de Marzo: Tocada en DF
Estuvo chingón que era cumpleaños de Memo, Felicidades Memo! y se hizo la peda. El show estuvo divertido también... solo el lugar muy fresón y una que otra raza fresona... lo mas chingón es que era cumpleaños de Memo y teníamos pretexto para festejar, wooojooo!.
22 de Marzo: Tocada en Tlanepantla, Edo. de México

La pregunta es... Porqué chingados nos cancelaron esas tocadas?
